An Evening with Steve Hawk and Ben Weiland: Film, Conversation & Book Signing

Join us for a special evening with acclaimed writer, editor, and lifelong surfer Steve Hawk. The program begins with a screening of Ben Weiland’s luscious Bering Sea surf movie, Island X, followed by an engaging conversation exploring cold-water surfing, storytelling, and Hawk's debut novel, Nearshore. The evening concludes with a book signing, allowing guests to meet Steve and have their copy of Nearshore signed.

A former editor of Surfer, Sierra, and Stanford Business magazines, Steve has spent decades at the intersection of adventure, environmental storytelling, and surf culture. He is the author of Waves and is currently co-authoring a book with his brother, Tony Hawk, on the history and culture of skateboarding. Having surfed for nearly 60 years—including on all seven continents—Steve brings a lifetime of experience, curiosity, and unforgettable stories to this intimate conversation.

Director Ben Weiland is partner at Fielder Films, based in Oceanside. His pioneering filmmaking adventures have taken him to such unlikely surf destinations as Iceland, Alaska, Norway, the Faroe Islands, the Bering Sea, and Kamchatka.
