Emerging Filmmaker Programs
EMERGING FILMMAKERS CONTEST
Each year, students (middle and high school) are invited to submit their films for a chance to be highlighted at the Emerging Filmmakers Award Ceremony during the festival. Finalists' films are showcased at the festival, and awards, cash prizes, and mentorship opportunities are given to top youth filmmakers.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
We believe in harnessing the power of film to inform and inspire students about current social and environmental issues. We partner with schools to facilitate film education programs that teach students filmmaking skills and empower them to tell their stories. If you are an educator and are interested in starting a film program at your school, we want to hear from you!
SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS
During the festival, we partner with local schools to curate classroom presentations with athletes, filmmakers, and changemakers to inspire and educate kids about the power of film. Past speakers include: Greg Long, Rich German, Chad Nelson, Adelia Sandoval, Matt Costa, Elena Hight, Kai Jones, Shaun Thomson, Erich Roepke, Timmy O’Neil, Jeremy Jones, Obi Kaufmann, and others.
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP DAY
During the festival, we invite school partners to bring their students to the festival grounds for a field trip focused on filmmaking, storytelling, art, and environmental education. Local organizations, filmmakers, and artists showcase various pathways within land and sea preservation for students to get involved, and ultimately empower them to become environmental stewards.
CONTINUED OPPORTUNITIES
Every year, we award one standout student filmmaker a scholarship of $1,500 to continue their work. We are committed to growing this program and giving more opportunities and scholarships to young filmmakers on the rise.
