Synopisis

In partnership with Grant Community AME Church, Big Green helped launch the San Antonio Million Gardens Project—an initiative that has supported over 300 families to start growing their own food.

The San Antonio Million Gardens project began in 2021 when Pastor Linda Carmen Bryant and her husband Elder Raymond Bryant recognized their community was in need of accessible, healthy food to combat the disproportionately high rates of chronic illness they saw within their community—diabetes, kidney disease, and heart failure. Understanding food as a root cause of chronic diseases led them to Big Green.

After nearly three years and 300 home gardens later, this San Antonio community is not only growing food together but have also found renewed hope and a shared desire to get healthier together. In this short film, Pastor Linda Bryant and home garden recipient Cynthia Burris share how growing food is changing the lives of the community.
