MacGillivray Freeman Films Presents | HURRICANE ON THE BAYOU
Hurricane on the Bayou is a cinematic tour de force set in one of the most vibrant places in America, the Louisiana bayou and the city of New Orleans, a place overflowing with life, love, music and incredible natural beauty.
Here, in the region’s bountiful coastal wetlands, alligators, humans and other wildlife have lived in harmony for centuries. But Louisiana’s wetlands are eroding into the sea, leaving the entire region more vulnerable to major hurricanes. Hurricane on the Bayou chronicles the staggering effects of one of the most devastating natural disasters in American history, Hurricane Katrina, as told through the stories of some of Louisiana’s most celebrated musicians whose lives were affected by the storm—rock 'n roll Hall-of-Famer and world-famous jazz pianist Allen Toussaint, gospel legend Marva Wright, Cajun rock n’ blues guitarist Tab Benoit, 14-year-old Cajun fiddler Amanda Shaw, and zydeco accordion master Chubby Carrier. Narrated by Academy Award®-nominated actress Meryl Streep and featuring music from the best of New Orleans blues and gospel spirituals, Hurricane on the Bayou is both a festive, music-infused celebration and a moving tribute to America’s most unique city and the importance of preserving its treasured wetlands.
